Aquamarine colour glass canoe shaped bowl by Ludovico Diaz de Santillana and Tobia Scarpa for Venini.
This beautiful piece of Venini is an example of one of the most renowned and difficult cold-working techniques by the master Venetian glassmakers; a combination of expert kiln work using blown handmade glass and exceptionally delicate cold work whereby shallow, irregular cavities are milled "molato" on the surface of the glass to produce the 'beaten' or 'battuto' finish of the canoe. Venini began making glass using these techniques around 1930. This limited edition piece is signed and dated 1996. In perfect condition.
New retail price for this piece is £4,500.
