Frans Schwartz (1850-1917)

This beautiful watercolour, delicately painted with great attention to detail is a scarce work by the Danish artist Frans Schwartz.

Schwartz studied at the Copenhagen Academy of Art between 1866 and 1872. he exhibited widely in Denmark and is most well known for his altar piece in the church at Aalborg. He painted  ceilings in many municipal buildings in Copenhagen and as a consequence of this public work he had less time for smaller paintings. He was also highly self critical which resulted in a limited output of finished works.
