Bronze. Signed and dated C Pibworth
A rare bronze of 1906 in the 'New Sculpture' style, works by Pibworth are extremely scarce, this large sculpture has been in a private collection for many decades.
Charles Pibworth studied at Bristol school of art winning a prize in the National Art Competition in 1894, He entered the RA school in 1899 winning prizes in 1899, 1900 and 1902. He was chiefly notable as an architectural sculptor in stone working frequently with the architect Charles Holden during the first decade of the twentieth century.
Works include window figures in the Law society extension in Chancery Lane, London. Relief for Orchestral Assoc, in Archer Street, Westminster, London.
Elected a member of the Royal Society of British Sculptors in 1907.
Joined as a member of the Artworkers Guild in 1910.
He exhibited widely in group exhibitions, exhibiting over thirty times at the Royal Academy, London.
