According to the catalogue,

'Wlerick's drawings were totally independant from his sculpture. they were done at great speed but a session left him exhausted. During the war years when sculpture was difficult he drew a great deal. Paper being very hard to find he often drew on both sides of the paper even using paper torn from his sons stamp album.'

Arnold Haskell wrote in his introduction to the catalogue:

'Robert Wlerick, discovered by Rodin acclaimed by Bourdelle and Despiau and hailed as the herald of the avant-garde by Guillaume Apollinaire. Wlerick remains little known outside France having turned down offers and contracts from famous dealer- impresarios of the day.

He died at the height of his powers  during the war before his completion of his statue of Marechal Foch. His output is comparatively small around 150 works, 100 of which are in museums.'
